Anyone can join Medium. To publish, you have three options. You can:
» Create and edit your own publication (if accepted by the Editors) to which
others can submit content.
» Be designated as an author and publish to your own feed.
» Submit content to an already established Medium publication.
If you want to look at a list of the top one hundred publications on Medium, you
can go to https://toppubs.smedian.com/, as shown in Figure 16-1, to see which
ones are most popular. It’s also helpful to browse there to orient yourself to the
type of content that’s successful.

Readers can subscribe to Medium for a small monthly fee and become a member
(as of this writing it is five dollars per month). For their subscription fee, they
receive hand-curated content and other features not available to non-subscribers,
such as podcasts. When subscribers clap (see the “Reviewing a profile” section for
