» Photo albums: You can easily add a set of photos to Facebook in the form of
an album. You can have an unlimited number of albums. Make sure to add
any pertinent photos of your products, services, staff members, and anything
else that will inspire your customers.
» Multimedia content: To ensure that you provide a variety of formats, you
can link to slides, video, and podcasts. Remember that your audience likes to
be surprised.
» Twitter feeds and blog posts: You can easily link your Twitter feed or blog to
show up in your status updates using a plugin. For example, to link your
Twitter feed to Facebook, go to www.facebook.com/twitter/.
» Event information: The opportunity to alert your community to your events
is worth taking advantage of. You can also show the location with a map. (See
the section “Facebook events,” later in this chapter, for more information.)
» Offers: Using the Offers tab, you can create an offer for your customers on
Facebook. This gets published like a post with a photograph, the details of the
offer, and the mechanism to take advantage of it. Two things to remember
here: First, make sure that you take down expired coupons and contest
notices. If your original offer had been created using Facebook itself, you
probably set an expiry date, which is good. Second, some people may un-like
your page after they print the coupons or enter the contest. Therefore, make
sure that you offer a prize that’s relevant for the audience you want to attract
and provide content that keeps them engaged when the contest is over.
PBS Kids, shown in Figure 8-2, has a popular Facebook page that sometimes
offers coupons and giveaways.
Facebook constantly updates the designs and the features offered on its business
pages. It’s important to check back occasionally to see what new features have
been made available for you to take advantage of as you find different ways to
engage customers.
Facebook groups
Facebook groups are set up by users and are used to discuss topics of interest and
express their points of view. To join a group, you have to be invited by another
member unless it’s a public group. Facebook groups had begun to wane in popu-
larity with the rise of Facebook Pages until Facebook recommitted to them in the
spring of 2019 and put them front and center in the app design. Groups is the third
tab in the navigation bar across the bottom of the mobile app. Groups are mostly
used because they can bring together people around common interests and offer
the privacy that Pages cannot. As a brand, it’s better for you to have a page than
manage a group, which is really designed for user-to-user interaction only.
