As of this writing, Facebook has decided to connect its properties — Messenger,
WhatsApp, and Instagram -— so that users can communicate with one another across
these platforms. Mark Zuckerberg calls it “interoperability.” He is also adding “from
Facebook” to each name, so, they will be known as WhatsApp from Facebook and
Instagram from Facebook.
Critics of the plan think that adding Facebook to the name may be detrimental to these
brands. They believe, based on data, that most users aren’t aware of the parentage of
these platforms. Only time will tell.
