Searches

For anyone looking to market via Twitter, the first step is to monitor the conver-
sations for your company, brand, and product mentions. You want to know how
people are talking about you. You can set up these searches easily within Twitter
itself or by using a separate application such as TweetDeck (www.tweetdeck.com),
which is shown in Figure 9-1. Make sure to track not just your company’s brand
but also your competitors’ brands. You’ll probably learn more from people talking
about your competitors than from their conversations about you. You can use the
Twitter search engine (https://twitter.com/i/moments) or one of the real-time
engines such as Social Searcher (https://www.social-searcher.com).

The reason for using a platform such as TweetDeck or Social Searcher is that you
can find sorted information in real time. When you use Twitter search, you get a
deluge of tweets that you have to sort through. The tweets may be current or a bit
older. When you use the real-time search engines with the additional features,
you get up-to-the-minute tweets that can be sorted by category. These are the
best tweets to use for real-time marketing campaigns.
