» Wireless-enabled devices: These devices aren’t phones, but each has
some form of wireless connectivity — either through Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or
an embedded wireless access card. The Apple iPad and iWatch are among
the most popular wireless-enabled devices as this book goes to print. With
Internet access, these devices naturally support interactive marketing.
Most people are adopting the requisite data plans to send text messages, acquire
Internet connectivity, and enjoy related value-added services. This fact means
that you must make your SMM campaigns mobile-device friendly. Also, keep in
mind that the percent of the overall population using smartphones today is a
much larger percentage of your target audience than it was only five years ago.
To learn more about the thousands of mobile devices that are out there (we’re not
kidding; there are that many), check out DeviceAtlas at www.deviceatlas.com/
device-data/explorer (see Figure 23-1). Click the Device Data tab.
Even though the iPhone captures the lion’s share of the press today, according to
statcounter (http://gs.statcounter.com/os-market-share/mobile/worldwide),
in 2019 the iPhone accounts for 22.04 percent of the worldwide smartphone market;
Android had 76.03 percent.
